The design team at Peugeot has recently done some excellent work. Peugeot, a French carmaker that had a spell of looking ordinary, if not ugly, has been thrust back into the limelight with models like the 208 and 508.

Our test car looked and felt even more luxurious with the Blue Naboo leather seats, which are an option for GT cars’ Driver and Passenger packages. While cruising around those terrible city streets at lesser speeds, we noticed that the plug-in hybrid vehicles had a bit more body roll while cornering and a generally bumpier ride. Turning the crankshaft to 1,750 rpm, the base Puretech gasoline engine produces 129 horsepower and 230 Newton-meters of torque. You may be sure that this little car will sell like hotcakes thanks to its 130 mph peak speed and 10.4 second zero-to-62 mph performance.
When you ask for more acceleration, the EAT gearbox shifts down a gear or two, which increases the revs and noise without really increasing the acceleration. At low rpm, it stays quiet. As is usual for plug-in hybrids, the 2026 Peugeot 408 PHEVs display exceptional fuel economy in the official WLTP combined cycle tests. One would have to follow an almost religious charging regimen to get 215mpg in the Hybrid 180 and 211mpg in the Hybrid225, respectively. Based on official mixed cycle testing, PureTech fuel achieves 41-48mpg and 133-156g/km. The standard stop/start system and the 408’s aerodynamic design both have a role in this. A gasoline engine (1.6 liters), an electric motor (109 horsepower), and a lithium-ion battery (12.4 kWh) are all combined in both variants, making them hybrids.
